I have had the opportunity to be the director of training groups at a few companies and I have enjoyed the experience. My philosophy has always been to work to make myself obsolete. I do this by working hard to train my staff on everything that I know. I teach them my development process, decision making tools, software skills and anything else that they are willing to learn. The reason I use this approach is that I believe that having a strong department will enable me to assist in other parts of the organization. It also is valuable for when the company needs to expand the role of training because it gives us great staff members to plug in right away. |
